Portugal freed from the yoke of the "troika" which the socialists left the country with

Last Wednesday, 18th of February,
the head of the EU executive, Jean-Claude Juncker,
admitted that the 'troika' "sinned against the dignity"
of the Portuguese, the Greeks and the Irish also,
reiterating that it is necessary to review the model
and not to repeat the same mistakes.

"What Mr Juncker said was what the CDS have repeated over time,
more or less explicitly, as a warning,
that being a government as a protectorate
of the "troika" is a shame,
it was a humiliation that the PS (socialist party) brought upon us,
it was very difficult to govern together with our creditors
but we were able to, "
Nuno Magalhães told reporters in parliament.

Nuno Magalhães reminded the parliament
that the centrists "several times" warned against
 "the little-acceptable discrepancies
between what the IMF officials, above all,
but also the European Commission and the ECB, said to the media,
and that what the technical staff here in Portugal
proposed and required".

"Having said that,
and knowing that even Mr Juncker
had already said something similar
in his speech in the European Parliament,
it comes as no surprise to us now.
However, I would like to make it clear
that it was thanks to the effort, the dignity
and the willingness of the Portuguese people,
sometimes going against the will of the 'troika' itself,
that the Portuguese got rid of the 'troika' in due time."

He maintained that "today Portugal is no longer a protectorate,
with which the previous socialist government left us;
we are no longer subordinated by our creditors
that the previous government left us;
we are no longer dependent on the discrepancies of opinions
of the policymakers
and the experts from the institutions that assessed us
and above all, we have re-established our independence,
and this is solely by merit of the Portuguese people
and this fact distinguishes us from other cases,"
