Mário Soares' open threat to a judge consists an act of State treason?

Mário Soares, ex-PM, ex-President of Portugal,
has ferociously attacked the preventive imprisonment
of his protegé, José Sócrates, socialist ex-PM,
imprisoned for corruption, money-laundering and fiscal fraude,
has threatened the Judge Carlos Alexandre,
the magistrate who ordered the arrest of José Sócrates.
in a written artilcle in a daily newspaper.

"The Portuguese judges can not keep their silence
in the face of the threat made against judge Carlos Alexandre,
by a state counselor,
whereby they deeply deplore such statements,"
the Trade Union Association of Portuguese Judges (ASJP)
said in a statement to Lusa agency,
concerning the claims Mário Soares expressed in a opinion piece
published on Tuesday by the Daily News.

In the article that speaks about the arrest of Socrates,
Mario Soares questioned the reasons for the arrest of the former Prime Minister
and criticizes the decisions of the investigating judge
and ends by saying:
"And judge Carlos Alexandre should take care ..."

In a note sent to Lusa Agency, the of Portuguese judges´ Association (ASJP)
stresses that "respect is required from everyone
and especially from those who exercise state functions,
for the dignity that the Constitution assigns to them,(judges)"
noting that it is " a special duty imposed on those who exercise state functions
and the example that should be given to citizens who legitimate them ".
The judges also claim that the respect of the exercise of their duty
and the correct functioning of state institutions
"is the line between the rule of law and totalitarianism."

The judges' association points out~
that Portugal is a State where the rule of law is supreme
and within the rule of law "judges comply with the law and only the law,"
adding that "judges are the holders of sovereign duties
and in the exercise of its function guarantee the rights of all citizens. "
The judges also ensure that "they are not and never were above the law"
and that "is demonstrated on a daily basis over the 41 years of democracy."

Indicted for the crimes of corruption, money laundering
and qualified tax evasion,
José Sócrates was arrested on November 21,
at the Lisbon airport, coming from Paris.
Since November 25, the former prime minister
is in custody in Evora Prison,
where he has appealed to the Court of Appeal of Lisbon.

But Mário Soares' threat is serious
and should NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.

It should be considered as a threat against the State,
and as such is likened to TREASON!!
