Confidence in Portugal's capacity to comply

Olli Rehn,
European Commissioner for Economic Affairs

The troika has given Portugal another year to balance its defict.

European Commissioner for Economic Affairs
said on Tuesday that the extension for one year,
of the adjustment program for Portugal to reduce its deficit
"will soften the social impact and economic costs in the short term"
which is "necessary. "

"This extension, as well as the fact that the Portuguese authorities
expect to be able to cover any additional financing needs,
are more a testament to the growing credibility of Portugal," he said.

Arguing that, "in an environment with many external challenges,"
Portugal has managed to continue the successful implementation
of its program of economic adjustment,
Rehn pointed out that,
"As a result, confidence in Portugal among its international partners
and investors continues to grow".

In a statement issued in Brussels
after completing the mission of the 'troika' (European Commission,
European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund)
for the fifth revision of the adjustment program for Portugal,

Olli Rehn underlined that "that it will be important for Portugal
to continue to implement all aspects of the program
with the same degree of determination in the coming months. "

Olli Rehn said he was:
"fully aware that this adjustment and reforms
can also bring difficulties to many Portuguese citizens in the short term,"
however, that "the program is to create the conditions
for sustainable public finances, balanced growth
and more and better Portuguese jobs for the people. "

Now all that Portugal doesn't need right now,
is that hysterical socialists and Co.
will try to sink the international confidence
in Portugal's determination and ability
to fully comply with the program of financial adjustment,
which was negotiated and agreed on by the very same socialists,
who now want to create a political crisis in the country.

As Sócrates used to say: "É só o que me faltava!"
