Chaos in Lisbon city centre

The municipality of Lisbon has signed contracts
of more than 30.7 million euros in works,
in the last five months,
causing havoc in the city.

Lisbon´s city centre is becoming unrecognizible,
looking more like a shipyard, full of heavy machinery,
torn-up streets and pavements,
making the lives of commuters, pedestrians
and motorists hell.

Tourist buses cannot follow the normal touristic areas,
and the noise of these heavy lorries, coming and going,
is deafening at times.

Where has the old, beautiful Lisbon gone?

30,7 million euro in 79 contracts signed
for the rehabilitation works and requalification of public spaces
this year alone.

The municipality of Lisbon has already signed
a contract EUR 30.7 million (excluding VAT)
for public works contracts in just five months.
This is the total amount of  the 79 contracts signed with
construction companies this year alone
and published on the portal basis of public procurement tenders,
according to the accounts of newspaper  "i".

This amount does not account for the procurement
of architectural services, studies, purchase of materials
and contracts of safety inspection.
Apart from the above mentioned amounts,
the municipality has also signed a total of 532 contracts
for the purchase of goods and services
worth another 65.4 million euros.

Chaos in the streets and squares, pavements,
and in the coffers of the municipality,
for the tax-payers to boot.
