The radical Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues,
who abolished national exams,
and is completely in the hand of the communist trade Union, FENPROF
"What we see today is that the Socialist Party is being carried away
by the radical agenda of the radical left.
It is worth asking who's the boss in the Ministry of Education,
if it is Mário Nogueira, the Communist Party, Bloco Esquerda,
or the Socialist government,
which always had a more moderate and conciliatory view
on this matter and has always recognized the public education service
provided by non-state schools", said the leader of the CDS
to journalists during a visit to the fortnightly fair of Vale de Cambra.
Assuncão Cristas reiterated the concern of the party
with the "concern and threat to the contracts of association
to private and cooperative education,
providing a public service of great quality
for the benefit of Portuguese families."
"We are talking about 17,000 students and 1125 teachers
who may be affected by a collective dismissal
and many families do not know if their children
would be able to continue in the same school next year", she said.
The centrist leader noted that many of the private schools
and cooperatives schools, began to do "a public work education
at the request of the State itself, in many areas,
where there were no state school provided ",
which "the traditional Socialists never put into question ".
Assuncão Cristas admitted, however, that there may be a need
to review the policy, where public and private education coexist
and where there had been a sharp decrease in the number of students
as a result of the low birth rate.
There should be a constant evaluation to see which schools
ensure better quality schooling and lower costs than the state.
