The agreement between the Socialists and the radical left-wing parties, are ONLY the tip of the ice-berg

An ice-berg, a danger to ideological treaties, where only the converge is visible,
but all the differences are invisibile, lurking underwater.

"This agreement is the visible tip of the 'iceberg'.
Francisco Assis believes that any agreement
between the socialists, the radical Left Block and the communists (PCP),
hides significant differences between the parties -
that are the foundation of the iceberg.

Francisco Assis, Socialist MEP (Member of the European Parliament),
today compared a possible agreement between the left parties with an 'iceberg',
where  - the points of convergence - is ONLY is small part of the ice-berg,
but underneath the surface are all the ideological differences
which separate these leftists parties.
Therefore, a government supported by an agreement
between the PS, the Left Bloc and the PCP,
is the integral part of a "wrong" strategy,
which would not function
for an enormous inability to cope with any unforeseen events.

"This agreement between the socialists and the leftists parties,
is the visible tip of the 'iceberg'," Assis said in an interview with TVI,
noting, however, that "the rest is there," in part of the iceberg,
that is not easily visible and that the image given by Assis
refers to the differences, between these parties that are "very very deep,"
especially that which divides these leftists parties
- the country's economic policy.

The MEP said he would like to challenge those who argue that it is possible
to make an agreement with these radicals,
only on the basis of the points of convergence.
And he warned: "In the government we are confronted with the unforeseen",
that this combination of parties will have enormous difficulty in resolving.
The Socialist also said that he will go to the party´s meeting on Saturday,
to tell the leader of the party, António Costa, why he thinks this strategy is wrong
and argues that the PS should take its place in parliament,
as the main opposition party, evaluating in each situation,
the policies the coalition PSD/CDS government would want approved.

The MEP, who tomorrow joins a group of disgruntled socialists
at a dinner in Aveiro,
rejected the idea that the PS deputies
will ignore the discipline to vote on a leftist government scenario.
