Duel at the Rat Square (headquaters of the socialist Party) Costa calls Assis for a meeting of the Political Committee

Francisco Assis, Member of the European Parliament

After António Costa "stabbed" Assis in the back,
by calling for a meeting of the Political Committee,
for the same time as Assis meeting on Saturday,
thereby thwarting Assis' plans,
with the "dissidents" within the socialist Party,
who do not agree with Costa´s policies of swerving to the extreme left.

Having cancelled the meeting in Mealhada, Assis, however
decided to anticipate Costa´s Saturday´s meeting,
by calling for an alternative meeting of dissidents,
in Mealhada, in a public auditorium, for Friday night
of militants who intend to form an internal current
to challenge an eventual PS government
with the support of the communists PCP and radical BE.

One hour after receiving the news of the new dissident meeting,
Costa called Assis, and even offered him an government post.
Trying to kill the revolt in the bud,
Costa is clearly nervous, as more than 400 "dissidents"
are expected at Assis' meeting.

There is a clear cleavage within the socialist party,
as Costa took the iniciative to negotiate ONLY with the radical
Bloco Esquerda and the Communists,
with the only objective:
to prevent the winners of the recent elections, to govern,
thereby throwing all caution, ethics and tradition to the wind,
in order to fulfill his own personal ambition to became Prime Minister,
at any cost, sacrificing all traditional socialist and democratic values.

The long knives are out,
maybe the long silver swords,
ready for a mega-duel at the Rat Square.
It's possible that some rat heads would eventually roll.

That would only be a small sacrifice , on the implecable road
of uncontrolled personal ambition.
