Assis, a courageous voice in the wilderness - Uma voz no deserto dos socialistas

Francisco Assis, socialist member of the European Parliament

Francisco Assis intends to proceed 
with a "critical internal current and alternative" 
in the PS, joining all the socialists 
who are against the agreement with the radical Left Bloc 
and the communists PCP.

Francisco Assis pretende avançar 
com uma “corrente interna crítica e alternativa” 
no PS, juntando os socialistas que estão contra o acordo 
com o Bloco de Esquerda e PCP.

The MEP (Member of the European Parliament) Assis, 
revealed to "The Expresso" newpaper,  
that he will meet this next week "with socialists militants 
in various parts of the country, 
who disagree with the direction that is being followed" by António Costa.

O eurodeputado revelou ao Expresso que se vai reunir 
esta semana “com militantes de várias zonas do país que discordam 
do rumo que está a ser seguido” por António Costa.

Assis has been a hard voice regarding the formation 
of a socialists government of the Left, 
considering it "unthinkable" and "unnatural" 
to have an understanding with the Communists 
and the radical leftists bloc.

Assis tem sido uma voz dura 
no que toca à formação de um Governo de Esquerda, 
considerando “impensável” e “contra-natura” 
um entendimento com os comunistas e os bloquistas.

He is, however, one of the few insurgents amongst the socialists: 
the Political Commission have already submitted an understanding 
for approval and the parliamentary group will vote in favour of 
the rejection of the Government Programme of the PSD/CDS in the plenary, 
to open the way for a leftist government.

É, no entanto, um dos poucos insurgentes entre os socialistas: 
a Comissão Política já terá submetido o entendimento para aprovação 
e o grupo parlamentar votará 
a rejeição do Programa de Governo PSD/CDS em plenário, 
para dar lugar à esquerda.

Being a voice in the wilderness, 

can be a courageous act on the part of Francsico Assis.

With António Costa placing an anti-constitutional measure 

of voting discipline on all deputies, 

he is depriving the deputies of freely expressing 

their opinions and their differences, 

with this measure imposed on the deputies 
by the party leaders.

It is an unconstitutional measure, 

anti-democratic, 

anti-freedom of thought and speech.

Sendo uma voz no deserto, 
pode ser um ato de coragem por parte de Francisco Assis. 

Como António Costa colocou uma medida anti-constitucional 

da disciplina de voto em todos os deputados, 

Costa está a privar os deputados de expressar  

suas opiniões e as suas diferenças livremente, 

com este imposição pelos os líderes partidários. 

É uma medida inconstitucional, 

anti-democrática, 

anti-liberdade de pensamento e de expressão.
