Disaccord, bickering, in-fighting, disunion in the Socialist Party

Isabel Coutinho, Socialist Women Association president

Bickering, in-fighting, resignations,
proposals that are out-voted and dismissed,
insults thrown around,
has shown just how (dis)United the Socialist party really is.

If António Costa can't even
UNITE HIS OWN PARTY ,
HOW WILL HE BE ABLE TO GOVERN A COUNTRY??

Isabel Coutinho, president of the Socialist Women Association has resigned,
over the in-fighting about the deputy lists presented last week.
Isabel Coutinho presented her resignation, last Thursday,
as the chairman of the National Bureau of Socialist Women.
A decision that comes after,
for the first time in the history of the organization,
it does not have any representation in the lists of candidates for deputies"
"I am suggesting that it is "a huge stain on the PS"
and that "there are no rational reasons in the interests" of the PS" she said

The Youth Organization of the Socialist Party for Leira,
are boycotting the election campaign,
as they have been ignored, not even consulted,
for the election lists of candidates.
Diogo Rodrigues, explaining that to address this situation
"the Leiria Federation abdicates from participating
in any kind of election campaign in the district.

"Partisan youths are no longer just the "flag shakers" of the party,
but "people capable of producing political thought,
able to build electoral programs and to integrate the lists" of the PS.

Victor Baptista

"I was the President of the Federation,
Deputy and President of Concelhia for many years
and I have never seen a similar situation of such outrage
as in the Socialist Party of Coimbra and especially,
the overt violation of the statutes.

Whether we agree or not,
the Socialists and the Portuguese deserve respect.
The Portuguese are very sensitive
to intolerance and arrogance",
says Victor Baptista, ex-socialist deputy.

"A "scorched earth policy" towards the "seguristas"
and the ignoring of internal structures and traditions of the PS,
in many cases,
do not bode well for the unity of the Socialist Party",
says André Azevedo Alves, a university professor.

"I remember the beautiful words of Torga:
"passing in the street is a procession led by a few ringleaders.
As orchestra conductors, they are governing the living and who will die ... ".

"Politics is perhaps the only place where one dies and is reborn.
Lulled to sleep by Alvaro Beleza's atitude,
who at the last moment, refused to accept a position
and assumed a dignified attitude,
there were many "seguristas" who succumbed
because they believed in a genuine effort of Socialist Party for unity,
promoted by António Costa.
The unity which António José Seguro called for.
For what good does "Friar Thomas preach!"

The much-touted "renovation lists" of the socialists,
are more like a removal list of the "seguristas" (followers of Seguro).
The "renewal"
only exists in removing those in "opposition" to António Costa.

António Costa needs a united and mobilized PS (Socialist Party)
to win the elections.
The example of Coimbra speaks for itself.
What happened across the country is politically very worrying.
António Costa must win the parliamentary elections
with a comfortable majority
in the wake of what he and his supporters promised during the internal campaign.
On the basis of this promise, António José Seguro,
was done away with!
If António Costa does not win the elections,
he will obviously be the sole responsible.

Rui Paulo Figueiredo

Rui Paulo Figueiredo, the current coordinator of the Socialist benches in the National Assembly on issues of economy, has also resigned.
