The "day-after" hang-over - euphoria turned to ashes

Even before the oficial results were known,
the socialist cried victory!

In reality, with an enormous absentism,
common to most European countries,
the socialist won with the thinnest of margin ever!!

In an euphoric celebration speech,
José António Seguro,
called it a "thunderous" victory
and announced the "end of the current coalition government",
calling for early elections.

In the Socialist party, PS, it wasn't just Mr.Seguro
who just ignored that the victory of  the PS was far from "expressive"
Carlos Zorrinho called it "a clear victory"
and Antonio Galamba, of the National Secretariat,
called it an  "unequivocal" victory.

In the socialists' euphorical delusion,
they lost touch with reality.

Not so long ago, in another coalition PSD/CDS government,
the PS, with Ferro Rodrigues, obtained 44.5% of the votes,
and 5 years beforehand  won with 43%.
Even in 1994, with António Gueterres,
achieved a tangent victory
with 35% of the votes.

Yesterday's vote brought a 31.5% vote to the Socialists,
only less than 4% more than the PSD/CDS:
Calling that close margin of 31.5%
a "thunderous", "clear" and unequivocal victory,
is purely delusional.
Calling for early elections, is utter madness,
in the insaciable quest for power, at all cost.

More than 6 million portuguese didn't cast their vote.

During the electoral campaign,
instead of speaking to the people
and informing the nation about European matters,
the socialists presented their programme of national governance.

7% of the votes were blank as a protest vote.

In actual fact, instead of showing the country as an alternative
to the current government,
the socialists are the in actual fact
the biggest losers.

Seguro named most of his "rival" faction's deputies as candidates.
Without being conscious of his act,
Seguro is holding a bunch of venemous
scorpions in his bossom.

Euphoria turned into a bitter disappointment!!
and could signal the end of Mr. Seguro's reign!!
