The end of the line? All effort down the drain??

Vitor Gaspar,
ex-minister of Finance, who resigned today

Defeated by an unending political war against him,
Vitor Gaspar has thrown in the towel.

A sad and dangerous day for Portugal
 as the troika's consolidation programme
will only be ended in July 2014.
There's especially an enormous concern
as to the enormous international debt that still needs to be settled
and  the continuous process of building-up of international credibility.

Thanks to Mr Vitor Gaspar's international prestige
and recognised hard work, millions of millions of euros
in public debt have been paid in the last two years,
after the socialist government of José Socrates left the country bankrupt and
without any international credit or much less any credibility.
Through Mr. Gaspar's efforts and work,
Portugal could return to international markets to finance itself
at more favourable rates.

Vitor Gaspar was blamed for all the hardships that portuguese has had to face,
with an enormous increase in taxes, and a never-ending avalanche of unemployment
eagerly forgetting who was responsible for the misery in which the country was plunged,
after 6 years of lies, hiding the evidence and rife corruption.

But unfortunately,
Portuguese do not want to face the truth.
Portuguese love to be lied to.
Portuguese enjoy living on borrowed money,
of tax-payers in other European countries.
Portuguese love to live as if there's no tomorrow.
Portuguese believe that the State own them a living.
When someone like Gaspar tells them the truth
about their miserable condition,
they hate Gaspar.
When Gaspar implements the financial restrictions,
negotiated and signed by the Socialist government of Sócrates,
the "bad boy" is Gaspar.
When Gaspar pays the trillions in debts,
left behind by the socialist, with the public finances in tatters,
with no money to pay public servants at the end of the month,
Gaspar is the culprit.
When Gaspar discovers the dimension of corruption
which reigned in the previous government,
Gaspar becomes enemy number one.

When Gaspar said:
"There seems to be a huge gap
between what the Portuguese think they are entitled to
as the social functions of the state and the taxes they are willing to pay
to ensure these same functions.
This problem is fundamentally a difficult problem,
both from the social, or political point of view. "
(24.10.12)

Socialists are in complete euphoria at this resignation of Vitor Gaspar.

Smelling blood, their dreams seem to have come true.
But unfortunately,
its a sad and dangerous day for Portugal.

Without the consolidation of the troika programme yet done,

Portugal is in danger of slipping into chaos,
especially with the socialists wolves closing in for a kill
going into a never-ending spiral of spending,
revoking essential measures and regulations
 put into place by Gaspar.
