A former administrator of RTP (the state TV station) recalled political pressures which he suffered at the hands of the Socialist Party when he was responsible for RTP
From a report by ANA HENRIQUES 18/02/2013 - 14:47 in the "Publico" newspaper
João Carlos Silva at the entrance to the Court of Justice in Oeiras.
The former manager of the RTP, João Carlos Silva,
one of three defendants in the Tagus park case that is being tried in Oeiras,
recalled this Monday morning in court the pressure
that he suffered at the hands of his socialist comrades
after becoming part of the board of the public television station RTP in 1999.
"I received complaints that the news was not as it should be.
I received letters from key leaders of the PS (Socialist Party)
to say that I was allowing the structures of information
to be controlled by opponents of the Party " reported,
pointing out Jose Junqueiro and Jorge Coelho
as two of the perpetrators of the alleged pressures.
Jorge Coelho he said, even submitted a formal complaint
against the state television to the High Authority for the Media against RTP,
claiming the reporters had covered a political event in Viseu
by the PSD (the opposition party at the time)
but not a similar event held by the Socialist Party,
which was held in the same city.
The complaint ended up eventually as filed.
To be completely frank,
I don't understad the Socialists hysterical reaction
to Mr. Miguel Relva's alleged medling in RTP's affairs,
when they are guilty of even more serious pressures when they were in power.
Moral of the story:
If you live in a house with a glass roof,
If you live in a house with a glass roof,
don't throw stones on your neighbour's roof.
