Battling to reenforce socialist ambitions

António Costa, mayor of Lisbon, ex-minister of Justice
core propagandist of socialist party,
"hopeful" candidate for next PM
António José Seguro,
Socialist  Party opposition leader

In the fierce "battle" of succession in the socialist party,
José Seguro has just shot himself in the foot.

António Costa has never hidden his deep distaste
and fury at the election of Seguro,
and has silently undermined Seguro's "authority" within the socialist party,
while waiting in the wings for his chance to succeed Seguro
and become the next "saviour" of Portugal as the next Prime Minister,
after "engineering" the fall of the current PSD/CDS coalition government.

In times of grave financial austerity and contention in public spending,
increased taxes and collosal  unemployment figures,
public discontent has gradually grown more intense.

António José Seguro has bitten the bait,
launched by A. Costa,
by announcing the socialist vote against the next State budget,
blindly, without even knowing its content
and threatening the current government with a non-confidence motion.

Seguro is now placed in an extremely delicate position...
he cannot go back on his words, without losing face with his party;
Seguro cannot negotiate better terms for the State Budget with the government,
having announced a negative vote beforehand;
he is now forced by his own words to present a non-confidence motion,
which can cause the fall of the current government
causing total disaster when the country is extremely fragile and vunerable,
completely dependent of foreign aid for mere survival.

But at the same time,
Seguro isn't ready to be PM.
Ignoring the troika's international financial aid to Portugal,
WHERE will he find MONEY to pay salaries??

António Costa is patiently waiting in the shadows,
throwing stones in Seguro's way,
making him stumble and talk too much.
Costa is extremely ambicious and fervently desires to be PM.
His open disdain for Seguro, is evident for anyone to see.
He will not allow Seguro to stand in his way to become PM.

These two have
ONLY THEIR OWN PERSONAL INTERESTS AT HEART.

PATRIOTS?
Nowhere to be seen in the PS scenario.
