"The Soares" connection

In a recent "census" of the different foundations in Portugal, 

receiving State money, 

this couple, ex-PM and President of Portugal, 

came up as presidents of their own foundations. 

The Mário Soares Foundation, 

with 43 workers, received more than 

€1,2 million in tax-payers money over the 2 year period of 2008 and 2010.

His wife, Maria Barroso, president of the Pro Dignitate foundation, 

received €500,000 in tax-payers money during the same two-year period.

Both of them strong socialists, 

benefitted generously from the Socialist government of José Socrates, 

responsible for driving Portugal to bankrupcy and having to beg for international financial assistance. while handing out tax-payers money to hundreds of foundations, 

with no public utility, which lapidated the State coffers in a scandalous way.
