Otelo Saraiva de Carvalho, a coronel
and active participant of the military coup d'etat in 1974,
which ended the dictatorship of Oliveira Salazar,
is threatening a new military coup,
in case "conquered rights" were lost.

"The military has a tendency to establish limits to the actions of the political class,
which was crossed in 1974 and resulted in the "Carnation Revolution", added Otelo.

Otelo claims that Portugal is reaching that limit.

On Saturday, 12 of November 2011, the military are planning a demonstration in many of the main cities of Portugal which could cause trouble.

Another coronel, Vasco Lourenço, has made some serious threats
lately about a military take-over.
He claims that social convulsion is on the march.

In times of extreme financial difficulties and the current government forced to diminish costs,
the military are claiming their "rights" and refuse to lose any of their acquired,
near "millionaire", military pensions.

Speaking about being patriotic in hard times??

NO,
how can we mention being patriotic in the face of such strong military power??

How can we be patriotic, when the general public are forced to make enormous financial sacrifices but the military refuse to make their own sacrifices?

As Otelo says:
"The military have the arms and weapons, so they can dictate the course of politics".

A very serious threat indeed.

Where has democracy gone??

Or do we still conquer power at the end of the barrel??
