José Sócrates has been part
of the government for the last 16 years,
and PM for the last 6 years.
Playing the "immaculate virgin" of innocence
in face of the total disaster of Portugal's
financial and ecomonic failure,
and now on the verge of a complete meltdown,
Sócrates blames the opposition parties
for the financial situation,
as well as the lack
of international credibility,
on political irresponsibility.
Given the fact that Sócrates
and his Socialist Party,
have been in power for the last 6 years,
leaving the state finances in utter chaos,
it even so comes as a shock,
to hear that public state transport companies
don't have money to pay salaries for April.
State firms have duplicated their deficit in three years,
increasing the state debt in a billion euros per month!
(1000 milhoes de euros)
from 32 billion (32 mil milhões)
to 63 billion (63 mil milhões)
between 2006 and 2009.
Sócrates and Teixeira dos Santos
didn't inform the EU of this situation,
when negociating the PEC4!
They prefferred to
keep it as their dirty secret,
and now, after Sócrates' resignation,
blames it on the opposition parties,
for voting against the PEC,
in Parliament,
for the financial situation of the country.
REFER (trains) has failed a bid
to obtain a loan of 500 million euros.
18 banks have refused to grant this loan.
The METRO of Oporto needs
100 million euros urgently,
to pay salaries and outstanding loans,
BEFORE the middle of April,
without any possibilty in view
of acquiring this loan.
BOTH these companies are state owned
and should be covered with the yearly state budget.
These defaults have been building up
through months and years,
and now they are
sanctimoniously blamed
on the opposition.
Dear lord, spare us the hypocracy,
Mr Sócrates!
