The unelected PM of Portugal, António Costa
Assunção Cristas, leader of the CDS party
In the fortnightly parliamentary debate, the CDS leader, Assunção Cristas,
accused the PM, that the social agreement (TSU) has not been signed yet,
contrary to what the Prime Minister, António Costa had confirmed:
"You just lied to this chamber, you simply lied, Mr Prime Minister.
It is becoming a habit that whenever you are in this chamber, you always lie,
and you have just objectively lied.
The agreement is NOT been signed yet. "
Assunção Cristas met this morning with the UGT Trade Union and CAP
and made reference to these meetings with the social partners
after asking Antonio Costa
whether the agreement was signed or not.
The chief of the executive, António Costa,
initially answered he question evasively,
whether the agreement was signed or not and did not return to the subject
after the CDS leader accused him of lying:
"It was agreed that there would be no ceremony,
that the document would be circulated
and that we would all sign it and it is signed. "
Assunção Cristas said that "the CDS voted
against such a measure in 2016"
because "we are against a decrease of the TSU,
based on the Social Security System financing it,"
but stressed that the party "will not contribute to this measure,
as the Government wants, to devalue the social agreements ".
In other words, the tax-payers has to finance
an increase in the minimum salary,
because the Socialist government wants
to use the Social Security System,
paid by the taxpayers, to finance this TSU tax.
"If you are not worried about rebalancing this agreement,
which is already fatally wounded before it is even signed,
it will turn out to be your biggest shame.
I can assure you, that the CDS will present proposals in this Chamber
- I am looking forward to seeing how the PS will vote -
to ensure that, at least some rebalancing is guaranteed
for the IPSS [Private Social Solidarity Institutions],
as well as for the SMEs (Small and medium companies),
who have to bear the extra costs
of raising the minimum wage," she said.
Assunção Cristas also accused the prime minister of establishing
a "first and second agreement"
and not having a "majority to govern".
"You have an intermittent majority,
which is whenever they feel like it
and disappear when you don't feel like it.
You strictly lost the general elections in 2015, with 33%,
you have not yet got used to the fact
that to be able to pass your proposals,
you will have to realize in advance,
what kind of support you have
from your radical geringonça patners," she said.
"What you have shown,
is that you do not have a stable majority,
you do not have a credible majority,
you do not have a lasting majority.
And we are going to see more episodes of these,
because the prime minister,
in fact should be in that position,
as an unelected Prime minister
who lost the elections ,"
accused Assunção Cristas.
