António Galamba, a socialist militant
Antonio Galamba is again on the attack.
Critical of the current leadership,
he accused the Socialist Party (PS) of wanting
to turn a defeat into a victory, he says.
Costa is in hiding and he warns:
"There aren't two losses without another."
Harsh words from the socialist Antonio Galamba.
In an opinion article published in the newspaper "i",
the follower of António José Seguro, criticizes those who,
in the PS, "transform losers into winners,
without caring about ridicule figures they are."
The conclusion can only be one, concludes Antonio Galamba:
the "sensation of shame has died."
At issue is the result of the candidates of the socialist area
in the presidential elections.
For the former deputy of the PS, critical from the first hour,
of the course that the Socialists have taken in recent months
- "the internal wars, the defeat in legislative elections,
the alliances with the radical leftists,
the indefinition around the socialist candidates in the presidential elections
and the results of these elections,
where the socialist lost more than half a million voters -
what happened on the 24th of January,
was a clear defeat for the PS.
There is no other possible reading",
emphasizes Antonio Galamba.
"In the absence of a clear political strategy
and the proliferation of candidates on the left,
the Secretary-General , António Casta,
appealed for the vote of the Socialists in both of the considered candidates:
Maria de Belém and Sampaio da Novoa.
And the socialist people did not respond.
In fact, between the legislative and presidential elections,
the PS lost nearly half a million votes," writes the socialist.
As a supporter of Maria de Belém in the presidential race,
Antonio Galamba recognizes that the defeat of the former President of PS,
Maria de Belém , was shameful,
but still can not resist giving a pinprick to the socialist direction
- and especially to António Costa, of course.
"as I don't suffer from any ailment that turns defeats into victories,
it is more than evident that Maria de Belém had a result,
which fell far short of expectations."
Within small brackets, to return to criticize the socialist direction.
"Despite losing the second consecutive election, António Costa,
did not assume any political responsibilities as the leader of the PS,
he hid behind being the Prime Minister smokescreen
and spoke only after the elected president, Marcelo Rebelo Sousa.
Definitely, tradition is no longer what it used to be."
Antonio Galamba denounces,
that there now seem to be an "apparent contamination
in society of the traditional electoral attitude of the Communists (PCP):
everything is a victory, even when you lose."
In an implicit message to those who say the Segura followers "died"
at Maria Belém´s defeat, the former vice president
of the Socialist bench responds,
"Only those who stop thinking and acting
in accordance with their own values and principles
and their view of the world, die. (a political death)"
Finally, an X-ray of what Antonio Galamba believes
the last months of socialist government have been
and with a special reference
to the depreciative expression "poucochinho" (meaning very little),
that Costa used to describe the victory of Antonio José Seguro
in the European elections.
Galamba leaves a message:
"the PS had better watch out".
"In the current political context,
without paying adequate attention to the local authorities,
with the mixed-up Community funds,
with the government constantly in offices to answer questions,
requirements and consultations with their radical political partners
and the innumerous reversals measures
for those who have always been within the system,
it even seems that the declaration of principles of some socialists,
boils down to a mere 'seizure and holding onto power at all cost.'
It is just "poucochinho" (just too little)
for the requirements that the country
has to face on the horizon
- in the near future -
and it can lead that for the PS,
there aren´t two defeats without another defeat."
