Unrecognized young architects to work in the UK
12/28/2015
Several post-Bologna formations are out of the European list of qualifications,
and this has justified rejection of the application in order of British architects.
Dozens of national architects are having trouble finding work in the UK
because the UK authorities do not recognize the formations they did in Portugal.
Courses completed after the Bologna process in various public and private universities
are not on the list annexed to the European directive of qualifications,
and this has been used as justification by the British counterpart entity
of the Association of Architects
for refusing registration of these professionals in the country.
In June, when Diana Belo Novo arrived in London,
she tried to register at the Architects Registration Board (ARB),
the British counterpart of the Architects,
but to her utter surprised found out,
that her training course was not recognized.
that her training course was not recognized.
The reason for the refusal to register her with the Architect Board,
was the fact that, the course taken in Portugal,
does not meet the requirements, to be recognized in the UK,
so she can not sign any architectural projects
or even use the title of architect.
In the same situation,
are more than a dozen former colleagues
are more than a dozen former colleagues
of the Lusíada University in Porto, who have spearheaded a movement
to ensure the recognition of their training courses at the school of architecture.
And there have been other cases in private universities
such as the Arts School of Porto - whose situation has now been resolved -
or even in public universities,
such as the Universities of Coimbra, Lisbon and Porto.
The justification of the ARB is always the same:
the courses concerned are not listed in Annex 5,
of the European directive of recognised qualifications.
With the recent crisis in Portugal thousand of "qualified" young people
immigrated to find jobs in Europe.
Many, however,
found out that their courses,
found out that their courses,
done in Portugal,
are NOT RECOGNIZED eleswhere.
are NOT RECOGNIZED eleswhere.
All this is the result of thousand of courses,
offered at private universities, which sprang up like mushrooms
under the socialist regime of José Sócrates.
These universities urned out degrees like lolipop factories,
in the so-called New Opportunities.
But these courses are of no use,
as the portuguese say:
"Cursos da treta!",
without any quality or usefulness,
just for the holders to proudly exhibit their diplomas
insiting to be called "Doutores".
But the cruel awakening comes, eventually,
when they try to find work in other European countries,
and their meager qualifications are NOT RECOGNISED.
Sooner or later this policy of making everything easy and without effort,
would bring a cruel awakening!
In more severe cases,
the British order is even contacting these professionals,
noting that the use of the term "architect"
in their social networking profiles,
could be regarded as a "criminal offense".
So much for the "Cursos da Treta" of the socialists.
The new unelected radical socialist-marxist-leninist Coalition government,
could not wait a week, since coming to power,
to abolished the national exams for the fourth grade,
as well as for other levels.
Education is made cheap and easy,
with no clear requirements of quality or usefulness.
The end result could be disatrous!
