To save Portugal,
António José Seguro has taken up his magical wand
"fought a week-long battle"
to come up with a list of (un)realistic solutions
to save Portugal from total disaster.
to come up with a list of (un)realistic solutions
to save Portugal from total disaster.
Having unilaterally ended a week-long period of negotiation
with the coalition government parties,
he made a televised public declaration to the nation,
stating his personal socialist vision for the salvation of Portugal,
totally ignoring the fact that Portugal is under a strict bail-out programme,
which will last until June of 2014.
This strict austerity programme
has put Portugal into a virtual protectorate of the troika,
(the IMF, the CEB and the EU),
to whose strict rules Portugal is obliged to abide to,
international creditors whose outstanding money has to be paid back,
while Portugal only receives another pay-out cheque.
on the strict condition that Portugal passes
a thorough troika inspection positively
a thorough troika inspection positively
Without these cheques,
there would be NO MONEY to pay teachers,
doctors, public servants, pensioners, the military,
or to keep essential services like hospitals, transportation,
social security, etc. functioning.
With his angelical innocence in this cruel market-orientated world,
Seguro's contribution to the week-long negotiations were ZERO!
Instead of defending what is beneficial for Portugal,
Seguro has been trying to figure out his own political future,
with the socialist werewolves
(Soares, Calamba, Alegre, Costa and others)
biting his bloody ankels,
whispering a magical NON-COMPROMISE mantra in his ears.
Only one small phrase in his dream-like zombie speech,
could be useful: Seguro said:
"Now is not the moment to do what is possible.
This is the moment to do what is necessary!"
This is the moment to do what is necessary!"
What is necessary to be done at this moment is to:
1) PAY the nearly unpayable debt;
left by the socialists of José Sócrates' goverment, only two years ago;
2) ABIDE BY the strict rules and regulations imposed by the troika;
(called to aid Portugal in its bankrupcy plea by the socialists),
3) maintain the newly REGAINED INTERNATIONAL CREDIBILITY,
that the current government in such a short time managed to re-establish;
4) DRASTICALLY REDUCE the monstrous government spending,
by courageous state reforms, signed and agreed on by the socialists,
when they signed the memorandum for the bail-out with the troika;
But Seguro's magical wand has more magic in store for Portugal:
a) STOP all austerity measure imposed by the troika;
b) STOP all reduction in public servant numbers;
c) STOP all cuts in public servants' salaries;
d) STOP a sustainability contribution on all pensions above 10,000 euros;
e) STOP a possible 4,700 million euro cut in government spending.
f) INCREASE the national minimum salary;
g) INCREASE low pensions;
h) INCREASE unemployment pay-outs;
i) REDUCE the VAT of 23% to 13% in restaurants;
j) gradually REDUCE taxes;
k) CREATION of an emergency fund for 500,000 unemployed;
l) STOP privitization of TAP airline;
m) STOP privitization of Waters of Portugal with billions in debt;
n) STOP privitization of RTP state television station with billions of debt;
o) STOP privitization of the stae bank CGD which has been a heavy liability for tax-payers;
p) RENEGOTIATE international debt;
q) POSTPONEMENT of interest payments;
r) ENFORCEMENT of Portugal on a global and European level in defense of sovereign debts;
s) Sovereign debt over 60% of GDP should be managed by European Union;
t) USE EU COMMUNITY FUNDS for state and private investment,
which would not count for the public deficit;
u) LESS inflation;
etc, etc, etc....
Seguro says that the portuguese can't take any more austerity.
He claims the country is in a resessive spiral, and in a tragic social situation.
VERY GOOD CONCLUSIONS indeed!!
But what Seguro fails to mention, is that these conditions
were the magical gifts left over by six years of disastrous socialist governance
under José Sócrates, and Seguro was part and parcel of the socialist government!!
Seguros magical wand
ONLY PROPOSES:
MORE STATE SPENDING;
MORE DEBT;
NON-PAYMENT OF OBLIGATIONS;
MORE BORROWED MONEY;
INAPPROPRIATE USE OF EU MONEY;
MORE FREE HAND-OUTS FOR TAX-PAYERS TO PAY;
MORE FREE HAND-OUTS FOR TAX-PAYERS TO PAY;
SHIFTING OF NATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY TO EUROPE.
Are there any lunatic takers for this non-compromise proposal out there in space?
