Mário Nogueira,
president of the biggest teachers' trade union,
FENPROF,
is furious at the Education Minister, Nuno Crato,
and demands his resignation.
The reason:
notwithstanding the teachers' strike ordered by the syndicates,
MOST of the over 74,000 students were able to sit for their final exam.
Nogueira blamed the minister, Crato,
for creating the current situation,
calling for his resignation,
saying that the MINISTER was holding the students hostage.
"The Ministry of Education wanted to use our youth as hostages with
an iron fist that does not make sense," adding that
"young people today are suffering the arrogance
"young people today are suffering the arrogance
of the Ministry of Education that, in order to show who is the boss,
decided to create this situation. "
"This is an authentic irresponsibility of the Ministry of Education,"
concluded the unionist Nogueira.
WHERE ON EARTH HAVE WE HEARD THESE WORDS BEFORE?
For the last 38 years, Nogueira's message hasn't changed much,
no matter which party governs the country.

Quite ironic,
for one who has been unwilling to negociate,
for years and years, with ALL successive governments,
always just threatening and revindicating rights,
but NEVER ready to assume RESPONSIBILITIES!!
Finally, good firm common sense
and good governance has won the upperhand!!
More than 70% of the 74, 440 students scheduled to write
the final portuguese exam today were able to do so
and in 70% of all public schools,
100% of students sat for the scheduled exams.
