Biodiesel versus Food

Ann Berg, UN representative for Food Production and Agriculture,
claimed that it's ridiculous to use food for the production of biodiesel,
therefore increasing the basic food prices worldwide!

In the USA, 40% of the corn production is used to make biodiesel.

This 40% amounts to 125 million tonnes of corn which could have been used to feed
at least 600 million people during ONE YEAR!!

With an increasing demand for biodiesel,
basic grain prices have skyrocketed.

In the USA farmers receive subsidies to produce corn,
wheat and other grains, as well as soy beans.

But instead of feeding the hungry,
the biggest part of production is used for biodiesel production.

The Amazon rain forest is being destroyed by thousands of hectares per month,
to clear land for soy plantation to make biodiesel!

Millions die of starvation each year,
where they could have been saved by eating what the Earth produces naturally: Food
instead of dying because of biodiesel
to use as fuel in cars!!
