Hena Bagum killed by 40 whippings

In Shariatpur, Bangaldesh,

Hena Bagum, a 14 year old teenager,

was raped by her 40 year old married cousin.

Her screams for help,

alerted the nearby clergy from a Madrassa,

who accused her of "immoral sexuality",

and in a fatwa,

sentenced her to a public lashing

of 100 whippings.

Before the sentence was carried out,

her attacker's family,

subjected her to cruel attacks.

Her father was ordered

to pay a $700 fine,

whereas the annual wages

are a mere $520 per year.

After about 80 whipping she fell

to the ground, unconscious.

Hena remained in coma in hosipal,

where she died six days later.
