I posted a blog, 11 of February 2008, about Joana's mother and uncle's imprisonment.
The facts are as follows:
Joana, 8, vanished on the 12th September 2004 around 8pm, in Figueira, just 7 miles from the Portuguese resort, Praia da Luz, where Madeleine MacCann was allegedly abducted on May 3rd 2007.
No trace of Joana or Madeleine has ever been found, neither dead or alive.
Leonor and her brother, Joana's uncle, João, were constituted "arguidos", just like Gerry and Kate MacCann.
The Ciprianos were charged with Joana's murder (in the absence of her body) and subsequently sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Relatives of Leonor and João Cipriano, claim that a white and brown camper van, with a German registration plate, was parked near Joana's home, at the time of her disappearance. A man, around 40, with short, curly hair, seldom left the camper, but when Joana disappeared, suddenly he was gone too.
A week after the Joana's disappearance, the van was found abandoned in farmland at Praia da Luz, where Madeleine was abducted last year. A suspect, in the MacCann case, described to be between 35 and 40 years old, with long, straggly hair, was seen acting suspiciously near the apartment in Praia da Luz from which Madeleine vanished on the 3rd May 2007.
Could it have been the same person? Have the possibility been thoroughly investigated??
Criminologist and child protection expert, Mark Williams-Thomas believes police should investigate the similarities between these two cases. He emphasises the huge doubts about the Ciprianos' convictions, and believes that whoever abducted Joana, could be behind Madeleine's disappearance.
In both cases, the police investigations got off to a bad start, when they failed to seal off the scene of crime.
Gonçalo Amaral, a senior detective, who was sacked from the MacCann's case, is one of the five officers charged with extracting a confession from Leonor Cipriano by force. Amaral faces charges of negligence and perjury, another officer is accused of fabricating a document and three others are charged with torture.
Leonor alleges that police beat her to extract a confession. Her heavily-bruised face can be seen in the photo.

In the indictment the five police officers are charged with kicking her, hitting her with a cardboard tube, putting a plastic bag over her head and making her kneel on glass ashtrays. She confessed.
The mystery camper van, German registeration, where a man lived near Joana's home and later found abandoned near the site where Madeleine vanished, the proximity of the two locations, Figueira and Praia da Luz, which is only 7 miles away from each other, the suspicious man, aged around 40, seen near both sites where the two little girls disappeared, no bodies ever found, mixed with the lack of proper police investigation and TWO little girls STILL missing without trace.
In nearby Huelva, Spain, another little girl, Mari Luz was abducted by a convicted pedophile. Her body was found floating in a river, after many days of anguish and pain. The pedophile confessed luring the child into his home and after a fall down some stairs, having dumped her seemingly limp body down a sewage shaft.
Where are Madeleine and Joana??
What REALLY happened to these two little girls??
